Issues

We communicate complex issues in ways that are compelling and accessible so that policymakers and the public have the information they need to make informed decisions.

Clean Energy Icon

Clean Energy Transition

CRL works to ensure that all communities – particularly those that have been underserved – have equitable access to the hundreds of billions of dollars in available federal and local grants and tax incentives to support the transition to sustainable green energy.

Consumer Finance

Consumer Finance

CRL monitors developments across the consumer finance sector and acts to protect people’s pocketbooks from financial misconduct so families can build financial stability. We support the development of policy and regulatory infrastructure needed to ensure an equitable green lending marketplace for all consumers.

Debt Collection & Settlement

Debt Collection & Settlement

More than 4 million Americans are subject to wage garnishments for outstanding consumer debts and over 64 million people are being pursued by debt collectors.

Mortgage Lending

Mortgage Lending

Home ownership has been the primary means for most American families to build and pass on inter-generational wealth.

Overdraft Loans

Overdraft Fees

Excessive overdraft fees charged by banks and credit unions can cause devastation for financially vulnerable families.

Payday and Other Small Dollar Loans

Payday and Other Small Dollar Loans

Payday, car-title, and similar high-cost loans, typically with interest rates of 100% APR and higher, trap people in crippling long-term debt.

Small Business

Small Business

CRL works to ensure fair treatment of small businesses and works to ensure that regulations do not exacerbate pre-existing inequities in the small business space.

Student Loans

Student Loans

Student loans create debt burdens that impact families for generations.
