WASHINGTON, DC — It was announced this morning that former Congressman Barney Frank, co-author of the eponymous Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, has died.

“Our heart goes out to Congressman Frank’s husband, family, and friends for their loss,” said Mike Calhoun, president at the Center for Responsible Lending. “In the aftermath of the 2008 financial crisis, the Congressman helped lead the arduous task of rebuilding our country’s financial system. Congressman Frank worked with allies to establish the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, a government watchdog that has saved Americans tens of billions by defending their wallets from predatory lenders. Because of his work, Americans can get safer, more affordable mortgages and other financial products, and, as a result, they are better equipped to build wealth.”
