Frequently Asked Questions

Please read through the information below to learn the answers to questions we often receive. If you have additional questions, please reach out and let us know.

May I cite CRL research or use a chart/graphic from your website in a publication or webpage?

Research papers, policy analysis and consumer information content on this web site may be re-published in whole or in part, provided that any re-publication does not modify the content and lists Center for Responsible Lending as the author. All other content on this web site, including without limitation photographs, logos, and other materials, may not be re-published without consent of Center for Responsible Lending. If you have a question about our research, ask it here.

Does CRL make loans?

No, but our affiliate organizations—Self-Help Credit Union and Self-Help Federal Credit Union—offer auto loans, credit cards, home equity products, debit cards, checking accounts, ATMs, and convenient teller services in more than a dozen communities in North Carolina, California, Greater Chicago, and Florida. If you are in a different state, or would like to find out more about credit unions in general, the Credit Union National Association has a good online resource.

Can CRL give me some advice about my financial or legal situation?

Unfortunately not. As a policy and advocacy organization, we are not able to provide direct services or advice to individuals. However, we have compiled a set of resources that might help you. We'd also like to hear your story, so please tell us about it.

How can I reach CRL staff?

If you are a reporter or blogger, our media staff are happy to help you. If you have other questions for CRL staff, use this form and we'll make sure it is delivered to the right person.

Does CRL provide advice to consumer attorneys?

We participate in the Appellate Assistance Project for Consumer Attorneys, a joint project of CRL, AARP Foundation Litigation, the National Association of Consumer Advocates, Public Citizen, and the National Consumer Law Center. This project offers a variety of assistance and guidance on appellate practice, ranging from helping evaluate whether to appeal adverse rulings to co-counseling the appeal. We also can provide help with research, drafting, rule compliance, editing briefs, and arrange moot courts. Complete this form to get more information.

Are there any jobs open at CRL?

Open positions at CRL are listed here, and Self-Help lists open positions on its website as well. Both CRL and Self-Help also offer internship opportunities; you can email internships@self-help.org for more information on these.

How can I help CRL in its work?

First, stay in touch! We invite you to join our email list or connect with us on Facebook or Twitter.

If you are a grant-making organization or interested in making a donation or cy pres award to CRL, our development team would love to talk with you. Finally, you can support Self-Help's broader community development work by opening a deposit account, IRA, or CD.
