Senate Votes for a Clear Credit Score

The Senate recently approved an amendment to the financial overhaul bill from Sen. Mark Udall (D-Colo.) that would require government-mandated free credit reports to include the numerical credit score in instances when it was used to deny credit, impose higher interest rates on loans, or reject job applicants. According to Udall, "This I believe will empower consumers, it will increase the financial literacy in our country. It's a win-win." The passage of the credit score amendment shows lawmakers' commitment to pro-consumer issues during an election year, as it has little connection to broad financial regulatory reform.
