Mortgage Fraud Increases in Q1, But Down Overall

Local, state, and federal authorities prosecuted an estimated 125 cases of mortgage fraud in the first three months of the year, according to Mortgage Daily's index. While the number is up about 16 percent from the previous quarter, it is down roughly 25 percent from the comparable period of 2012. Mortgage fraud was most prevalent in this year's first quarter in California, which bypassed Florida in terms of total cases taken to court during that time frame.
