Defense Department Protecting Troops From Predatory Lenders
Credit Loan
May 26, 2010
The Defense Department is reaching out to its enlisted persons to improve their financial literacy and to protect them from predatory lenders. A report was recently released, for example, alerting military personnel and their families to a phishing scam to steal their personal financial information. Defense officials also are petitioning the nation's lawmakers to take up legislation to protect members of the Armed Forces without compromising their access to legal goods and services. Money problems can hurt job performance, according to the Pentagon's Marcus Beauregard, who explained that "financial stability helps service members [and the Defense Department]. If they're paying more attention to their financial concerns, they're paying attention less to their primary mission and their primary jobs."
