NC Mortgage Overview

The NC Coalition focuses on state-level mortgage issues, and in the 2009 legislative session is working on foreclosures, foreclosure rescue scams, homestead exemptions as well as conforming NC statutes to federal language.
In 1999, North Carolina became the first state to enact legislation to curb predatory mortgage lending. Over the years since, North Carolina has continued to update its laws to keep abreast of changing predatory practices.
This foresight protected many North Carolinians from predatory loans but was not enough to avert the subprime foreclosure crisis that has caused enormous economic upheaval in North Carolina and all over the nation.
